I find little or nothing (except the blurb describing this post) that suggests she is currently a wife, although she clearly has been (and perhaps still is). Likewise, nothing in the story to suggest his (or her) ethnic origins! Jen is probably his wife, but maybe a male Punjabi room-mate. It is very unclear why 'downstairs' is going to conceal their liaison any more than the original room, and they don't seem to be time-constrained, once 'downstairs,' although cuddling or other après-coitus pleasantries are avoided due to Jen's still-imminent arrival.
