Back then everyone called them hermorphodites. Today, I guess, we call them transgenders. But make no mistake, Anne and Kay were two of the most beautiful creatures in the area. Anne seemed to prefer other women but Kay was open to men and women. Anne was short, 5 foot 4. She had raven black hair and green eyes. She ran track and played softball and volleyball in high school. Kay was an Amazon, standing 5 foot 10, barefooted. She played high school and college basketball. But what she truly excelled in was dancing. Where Anne was horribly shy, Kay was tremendous to be around. She was quite humorous and witty and very conversant. I had the pleasure of knowing both of them and the "secret" they tried to hide.
