Fear

I may not be from your generation, but I'm still afraid to take a shower when I'm home alone. I remember seeing Psycho on HBO when I was maybe 9 or 10. Afterwards, my parents told me to go take a shower before I went to bed, and I was so afraid that all I did was run the shower while I sat on the floor.

I agree that today's horror movies, while bloody and graphic, are not really scary. They're actually almost comical in a way, with some of the over-the-top, ridiculous scenerios they come up with. I think the scariest movies these days are coming out of Japan. They really know how to maximize the creepiness.

But, in general, movies don't really scare people anymore. The reality of life these days is so much more terrifying than a movie could ever hope to be. When kids see their own friends shot dead in the school hallways, how can they be expected to be afraid of a movie.
