Enjoyable read but it needs much more. I agree with other comments regarding the knowledge of his tryst with Carl's wife and the revenge is somehow incomplete without flaunting it in their spouses faces. The revenge needs resolve and effect.

Swap spouses now. The husband moves there stuff to their new woman. All finicals change to individual accounts. All retirements stay to whom the belong. Life goes on as two new couples which have nothing to do with the other. Skip the divorce crap. But write up new financial contracts for each couple. Only problem is irs which they'll work out each year.
