Ending #1 is actually the more interesting choice, I would suggest, because it's unexpected and slyly deconstructionist. A shaggy dog story that trips up the complacent reader. You would thereby avoid the wrath of the Bible Belt patriarchs while simultaneously turning too hip for the room, so to speak. The downside? The average reader won't get the joke.

I enjoyed the story exactly as written. The first ending showed what most likely would have happened, and why they would be willing to accept the bet. The second ending explored the unlikely, but still possible. Also, the second ending was very hot. The emotions seemed realistic and totally believable. Putting them together allows us (the readers) to have our cake and eat it too.
