b) if he didn't own a gun (shame on him)- head straight to the nearest FBI office or state police barracks (NOT the local cops) and report the guy while the damage to his body and the DNA evidence is fresh. If law enforcement or an incompetent prosecutor fails to do the right thing, he can always go back and castrate the guy.

Of course, doing the right and proper thing (revenge and pleading temporary insanity) wouldn't allow for an 18-chapter story of enslavement and degradation, but it would have really satisfied those of us who enjoy watching a good avengement scenario unfold. Perhaps Literotica could create a separate category just for the avengement theme of which there seem too few. I know this story has already been written, but he could have gone to a hospital and called police.
