I've enjoyed something very similar to this when I was very young and there has never been anything quite like it.

I'm too old and tired now for anything to work, but this story brought back such a powerful memory for me that I suddenly felt fourteen again, rather like a final reprise and all the better for not being expected. The author must know a thing or two. Perfect, just perfect.
