..."gate" and "gait" sound alike but are different:
gate/gāt/ Noun: A hinged barrier used to close an opening in a wall, fence, or hedge.
gait/gāt/ Noun: A person's manner of walking.
Should be:
"...a dignified gait, her muscles..."

This is the first story from you that I've read that you actually had an ending. Did you ever read the 'shortest horror story in the world' I think it was by Heinlein, but not really sure. It read 'The last man on earth sat alone in his room; there was a knock on the door."
It held the record for some time until Asimov beat it by one letter. 'The last man on earth sat alone in his room; there was a lock on the door.'
Just thought you might like that for a really short story.
