Homes were often lit by plumbed-in natural gas that was abundant in the rural South in those halcyon days before electrification. If a fragile gas mantle were broken, the flame could be extinguished, there was no safety shut-off, and the escaping gas had no odorant added in those days....

Wow! Just...Wow!

I accidentally stumbled over this story. I am quite a history buff and enjoy when a writer is so well-versed in the reality of the historical period.

I did not find a single anthropomorphism, the characters are believable and the language true to the period and people portrayed.

In just one page, the author ARTG defines the genre of Romantic Tragedy.
