Without being overly sentimental you draw out the stark reality of Cassidy's beginings. You've created a multifaceted character that you can't dismiss as purely good or bad. Very skilful writing.

I don't feel sorry for Yvette and Cassidy, I only pity them. Both have mental scars from their youngers years that they don't see that it's affecting their lives. They don't like for men to use them but yet they are doing the same.
