Artificial aphrodisiacs, do they work?

I've just checked the adult store and saw the aphrodisiacs section, and I wonder "do they work?"

I've always heard that they don't work, that are useless, some even toxic, chemical mixes, but actually I haven't heard of anyone that has tried.

Did you tried them? How was the experience? Are they worth it?

Ever hear the phrase "mind over matter?"
Its true- if you believe that eating bee vomit will make you horney, then by Goddess, it probably will.
If it takes honey (the bee vomit) or ostyers or whatever to get you in the mood, go for it as long as its safe and relatively sane.
Wouldn't advise eating blow fish to get horney- those things can be deadly if not cut right.

Yep I agree it's all mind over matter.

Haven't you ever heard about the drug experiments they conduct, where they give placebo's to half the people and the real thing to the other half. 99% of the time the people on the placebo's also claim to be affected, because they think they are taking a drug to make them better.

If it's safe and it works by all means go for it!!

Nope, they do not work. Most of the effects come from what science calls the "Placebo effect", meaning if you believe its medicine, then it really will make that headache go away.

The original spanish fly was made from crushed blister beetles, highly toxic and highly dangerous to imbibe.

Right now there is NO scientific proof of any chemical/compound/drug/food/whatever being an aphrodisiac in the sense of it instilling desire where none existed. Drugs like Viagra make it possible for men suffering from impotency to sustain an erection, but they already had the desire. The mechanism for arousal in males is by far less complex than what arouses females. A few years ago a group of doctors got together along with researchers to try to define female sexual disorders, they couldn't reach a concensus on the topic because of the complexity of the whole process. When that conference was over they had a tentative list of over 20 different problems, ranging from lack of lubrication, to a total lack of desire.

Perhaps someday there will be a little white pill you can take that will put you and your partner "in the mood", perhaps not. Right now if you must spend your hard earned money to buy stuff that doesn't work, take her out for an expensive candlelit dinner in some romantic setting, gaze deeply into her eyes and tell her she's the most important person in your life. Sometimes just showing your partner how much they mean to you is more of an aphrodisiac than all the oysters in the world. :)

generally speaking aphrodisiacs are a big waste of time and money. I say generally because under the right circumstances a plate of perfectly ordinary food can be quite arousing and if your partner is already feeling amorous and they think they're taking something to push them over the edge as it were then chances are it'll work. Other then that, if you're thinking of feeding an otherwise uninclined person some magic mixture to get them " in the mood", I'd save my energy and time.

Remember Quaaludes? Ever try "E"?

There a re a few drugs that generally promote horniness. Problem is that they are either dangerous or the horniness effect is a side effect to another action that could be (is) a problem.

I'm truly surprised that no one is working to identify the mechanisms, give that there are so many pharmacological clues to follow up. Or maybe they have and are sitting on a Pandora's box. What would the world be like if a compound like that was on the loose? The problem with GBH and other date-rape drugs would pale in comparison.

Maybe I ought to start a thread... "What do you think would happen if there was a well know and obtainable compound that made a person really horny?"

BTW, the mechanism of action speculated for Spanish Fly is this. It's a urinary track irritant which causes emission from the urinary track. These emissions make the genital area damper, and flow/wick around the clit. A moister, slippery clit is more stimulating, or gets more stimulation as it slides against the hood, lips, etc.

Or so people conjecture.

PS: Hot pepper is supposed to also be a UTI.

hmmm... well i guess the casual curiosity of some males is the question of giving an otherwise disinterested female a pill or concoction that will turn her into a craven, lust filled, gotta have it babe...

it's a terrible feeling to have lust and affection for a woman who is largely disinterested...but that's life if you're a guy...it's gonna happen more or less...

it's been my good fortune to be lusty and craven enough to move a woman or two to lusty apoplexy...but in each case the woman already liked me a lot...so i figure it was about 50/50 from myself and her..

so now it's more an assesment of how interested a woman is in me rather than an an assesment of whether a particular woman will go to bed with me...

and it's interesting too...the choosier i am the more often a woman will be comfortable talking..which is always a good beginning...

i really hate being in bed with a woman to discover she has no real interest in me. and it's happened..i gotta get outta there quick...i wouldn't give her anything to raise her lust at that point anyway...

i hope i didn't detract from the thread...
