Since I accidentally clicked "start new thread" instead of replying to one here's my edited first post of this thread.

I've seen a decent amount of pornography...but have yet to find anything that I really enjoyed. A lot of this probably comes from being with friends and buying whatever was least expensive on the table of tapes.

I'm curious about recommendations...what are your favorites? I'd be very interested to find something that might appeal to me more than what I have seen.

I'm not sure. I've never seen "Debbie Does Dallas."

I find most porno to be too made up and phoney to be worth anything more than a jerk off session.

Zero plot, extreme closeups that last for minutes on end, cum shots, crappy music.

Just once I would like to see a porno that had a real plot. I would even be willing to trade off hardcore for softcore if the plot was worth it.

Men tend to be very visually oriented, and so most of the porno's today is geared towards a male audience. Its basically non-stop fucking from the moment the opening credits stop til the close credits start.

If all you want is non-stop fucking,then I'd suggest getting tapes of amateurs. At least with amateurs you tend to find people that get lost in the moment and forget there is a camera nearby. That never happens in a polished professional porn movie.

I definately prefer the amateur stuff. Like to see people who are actually enjoying themselves instead of just acting.

Who can recommend some decent amature stuff?

By which I mean

- good enough production quality so you can ses and hear, perhaps with the camera moving a bit,

- demonstrative people who have lost awareness of the camera in the heat of the moment?

I've seen clips on the net where I'd actually pay to see the whole piece, but I suspect there wasn't more available.

The best thing to do is just got to a video store and take the time to look and see what is there. Most local owner stores have xxx movies in the back and if you take the time to look at the boxes, you will be able to tell the real from the fake. The amature ones are clearly marked. Some are good and some are so so. The only way is to just rent them. Just like other vids, you just have to check them out. As far as the classics go, the problem with them is that the music drowns out the moaning and sex sounds. I perfer the newer ones which have no music to them at all.
Now there are some that I like that are close to amature and that is the Ben Dover movies.. porn from England, Seymore Butts (yea I know they are so corny and his movies are more with actors except when he went to Brazil... now that one was hot) and there are others but the best thing to do is just go rent a group and test them out.

Jupiter Lilly might check out "Revelations" and "Eyes of Desire" by Candida Royalle. Porn made in the eighties is fun--the women aren't perfect (and neither are the men), which makes them sexier, the music is ridiculous, the sex is intense, and often there is something close to a plot.

i saw the paris hilton tape......that was pretty hot. yea they need to start getting story lines...and not using guys that look like creeps. i also like a lot of dirty talking in porn. moans and groans get kinda boring after a while

I don't know what it is about Peter North, but I like him. He is one of the nicer looking guys in porn and he has been around for a long time. I believe he actually started in gay porn. Either way, you haven't lived until you have watched him eat a girl out.

That said, I have yet to find a movie with a plot worth sitting through, and I hate when the girl stares into the camera making supposedly sexy faces instead of concentrating on what she is doing. Peter North has a good collection of professional stuff that isn't overly contrived, though I am sure plenty is.

Debbie is a pretty good movie. I have a copy. Want to come over and see it?

Many of the old ones from the 70's and 80's had plots and dialog.
"Deep Throat" is a good and funny classic.
Anything with Seka and Serena are good.

Yes, I miss those old ones too. The latest "Fuck Flicks" are not movies at all, just fucking.
I haven't seen anything else but this type in the one store I go to sometimes, but don't rent these very often because of this.

A vast wasteland

My problem with porn is not that there's no love between the participants, the problem I have is that there's not even any affection, even in the "classics". Okay, not never, but rarely. Not only that, but I love watching my partner climax, and the woman's climax is something I seldom see in porn. I admit, though, that I haven't watched much lately.

The few recent ones that I have seen seem to thrive on degradation and humiliation. Thanks, but no thanks.

I've seen many of the classics, but the only scene I have found memorable is the one one I saw years ago, between John Leslie and Jessie St. James in the old film "Insatiable." Those two seemed to actually have some feelings for each other.

I didn't start to watch porn really until the early 90s, though I have seen a few of the older ones...like from the 70s. And there is a difference.

In modern porn, what I hate are the ones that are guys supposedly picking up women to come back to a hotel room and have sex, where your only set up is, "Hi, Jessie, how old are you?" They all just turned eighteen last week, if you haven't noticed, and the guys are so condescending that I can only hope that these women are making some cake, cause I wouldn't let any man in the sack talking the way these guys do. There's no eroticism there. To make matters even worse, once involved in the sex act, these women hardly seem aware that they are being fucked. They're looking at the camera making these faces that a kid makes for Halloween pictures, or doing their best to look bored.

At least Peter North dresses up as a burglar and ends up in a threesome with his partners. Not much of a story, but it has more substance even than a lot of what I've seen lately. I don't look for a plot, necessarily, but the least they could do is pretend that there is a plot and that they are acting in between sex scenes. It's part of the fantasy. I don't want to know about some chick that got picked up for an on camera fuck at the bus stop.

The old porns I've seen have pretty normal to homely people in them. This is neither a pro nor a con. Sure, you would rather see the guy that doesn't have a bear's hide growing out of his back, but in the end, it goes back to the real turn on being that the people having sex seem to be enjoying it. In the old porns, they really do seem to be having fun, not because they are making all this money, but because they like having sex with the person that they are with at the moment. So, maybe they don't look as hot in the old movies, but they are hotter because they are having a blast, and it's a turn on to see people doing it and enjoying it in the process.

Now, if only they could get that combination of hot people doing hot things right...

I can relate to some of the comments above...although I haven't seen a lot, I always expected more as far as story lines went. I understand that for a lot of viewers, and particularly men, who may be more purely visually stimulated, that it can be nice to just get straight to the fucking. For me, I enjoy the buildup...seeing two actors or people dealing with teasing and sexual tension.

If you look at "Amanda by Night" you'll see that Jeremy has the ability to satirize himself, and it's pretty harsh satire at that. In other words, he has some self-awareness, maybe. My question, and this is for people here who enjoy this sort of thing, is why do so many x-rated movies show angles and closeups that have nothing to do with how sex is experienced--up and under the crotch being penetrated, gynecological close-ups, so many external come shots, and so forth. I agree with herecomestherain. Read and compare reviews, find a reviewer you like and trust. I like lindi's reviews on Adult DVD Talk and like a lot of the same things she does, but we don't agree on every movie. You could read my reviews but I'm an opinionated old goat with an attitude.
