Teigra Adams has forever been fascinated with large cats, but her favorite was the tiger. Maybe she became fascinated by them when she found out the meaning of her name is in fact tiger. It goes without saying that her major in college was zoology, but leaning heavily towards tigers. She did her time and worked at a veterinary hospital as well as interning where she could.
Once she had graduated, she moved back home. She found a place not far from her family or work, but on the suburbs of the city. She had grown up in the sticks, but for college moved to a big city so she had the taste of both. Suburbs worked best for her. Not too quiet, but not too loud and busy.
The place she had been interning at for the last year and a half decided to give her a chance and hired her on. It was a local Game Farm and exotic zoo located about a 10 min. walk from her place. They had bears, deer, coyotes, fox, and other wildlife you would see in the woods around you; amphibians; birds of indoor and outdoor nature; farm animals; Primates; and her personal favorite…exotic cats. They had just gotten the cats about 8 months ago, so they were still pretty new to their surroundings.
Teigra was assigned to care for the cats when they arrived and she was just happy when they had a tiger arive. It wasn’t a cub, but he was shy like one. She worked with him daily and soon he started to come around. He would work with the other zoo keepers, but seemed to do more for her. For their exercising, they would take walks up and down the street near her house. She was so happy he was coming around and she loved to pet and have him close to her.
Teigra sat in her living room as the storm outside raged. She had tried to get some sleep, but it wasn’t working. Suddenly there was a crash of thunder, flash of light, then darkness.
“Great! The power is out.” She mumbled as she started to stumble through the living room. She was heading to the kitchen to get the flashlight when she heard something that sounded like her potted plants being knocked over. “What on earth?” She thought to herself as she finally put her hand on the flashlight. She turned it on and went to the door leading to her patio and shone it outside. There she saw the tiger from the Game Farm. She wanted to let him inside, but she knew she couldn’t. “How did he get out?” She wondered as she walked to the phone. As she lifted it, she could tell right away the phone lines were down also. She couldn’t just leave him out in the rain.
Teigra went to the garage and opened the back door. The tiger just sat outside in the rain and looked at her. Slowly she turned and headed back inside. She knew that if he wanted to get dry, he would know the door lead to a dry place.
When the morning came, she went to the kitchen and poured her morning cup of coffee. Today was to be her day off so she was wrapped up in her bathrobe and dirty blond hair up in lose ponytail. As she sipped her coffee, she remembered the tiger was in the garage. She called the farm to let them know as she got a bowl from the cupboard. She filled it with some milk as she turned on the television and made her way to the door leading to the garage.
Slowly she stepped down to the floor as she saw the tiger sprawled out on the floor. She smiled as she saw he took up about as much room as another car would take up. Once she placed the bowl on the floor, she took a seat on the steps. She sat there as she just watched this majestic animal she had helped train wander around and lap at the milk.
