one reason

when there is no dnr order.....when all the nurses and doc rushed into the room CPR was started immediately....not a pretty scene this story trys to portray...definately NOT a peaceful ending. living will mean nothing...there HAS to e a doctors order for DNR EVERYTIME a patient enters the hospitalperiod

Not a dry eye in the house!

Beautiful! Thanks!

You should collect your romance stories in one volume and self publish.

There is a definite market.

DAMN IT, YOU ASSHOLE!.....

Nobody makes me cry. I don't like this author one bit for doing that to me. God, I hate crying.

A Truly Great Story

That being said, I don't think I could read it over as I do with some of my favorites, just way too sad. It takes quite a bit to make me cry.

This has to be the best story on this site.

Great story.

Yes I was weeping by the end of this truely excellent story, like everyone else. Describing deep-seated love, the story is so well written, has great character development, glows with excellent dialogue. I loved the references to historical events; they brought back memories of my living through them. As my wonderful wife and I approach our 57th anniversary (and I my 80th birthday), we realize that one or the other of us will find ourselves in the same situation in the not-so-distant future.... Thanks for the story! J.

This story touched my life in so many ways...

Thank you. 5+++ stars is not enough for your excellent work.

AnonymousAnonymousabout 2 years ago

This is why there should be a special ten star rating.

AnonymousAnonymousalmost 2 years ago

An absolutely brilliant story

So why am I sitting here crying - Perhaps because I have lost both my Mother and Wife to cancer.

5*s duly awarded.

This was the most loving and heart wrenching story I’ve ever read in my entire life. If this was a movie, I’d easily watch it over and over, and I’d still cry every time it came to and end. This is absolutely my favorite love story I’ve ever read.

AnonymousAnonymousover 1 year ago

Sad in the end but truly beautiful. Kudos!

Truly wonderful storytelling. Touching, and felt so authentic. I admit to crying several times, but it was wonderful at the same time. I feel like I'm not so alone, now, in feeling deep romantic devotion for my wife. So many other stories on this site lack any depth and only appeal to our baser urges. This story was a breath of fresh air that warmed my heart like a prairie chinook in Spring. I finished this story feeling sentimental but more satisfied with the time spent reading than I have in ages. Thank you, thank you, JoeDreamer, for doing mankind such a service with your writing.

P. S. I wish gifted creative writers like you could have an editor. I'm an incorrigible stickler so grammar/typo things distract me, and there were a tiny few of them, if we're being honest. With one editorial pass this would be professional quality, and I think your readers would be willing to pay you. Seriously.

Acck! Who is Elli? I was sure she was Elizabeth's ghost, helping her father through this trial. The the story ended.

BTW, great story well written. ¹

He tells that he was a soldier in the Korean War, but a child in the Second World War? That is chronologically puzzling me, since there were just five years between these two wars.
