Plaintive tenor ballad why must you be so
mean to me, baby? Why must your tone lilt
whisper hollow, but insistent as though
all the stars tumbled from the sky, were spilt
to measures coaxed to pour out of the bell?
Your breath to my soul, harmony of blues,
and you a ghost that cast me in a spell
of past and pain and nothing left to lose
before the window, drinking at the bar,
or scraping heels along an avenue
stretching into timeless years, nearness far
away from me into the fog of you.
I ain't got nothing but the blues baby,
bitter deep and sweet as muse baby.

Wow!!

Ange, I just got around to this, and WHEW!! I've got a ways to go. This just melted me. Thanks for the lesson.

I am surprised

by the lack of comments on this; I know the word "sonnet" scared me. I am glad I overcame my fear. This is a work of genius. (overcomes the word sonnet)I must have read this five times before I worked up enough courage to comment on it. Anything I have to say will not do it justice. Thermometer does not go high enough.

Your...

...talent can be downright scary...the ability to bend words and thoughts into needed structure without losing one bit of flow or power, maintaining impeccable phrasing. This one deserves a bow!

It's

a shame you can't send these to the artists that inspire you.

I'm sure they'd love them.

jazzy, beat, scat sung, with a dash of Billie for good measure...

you sure you don't wear a beret??

: )
