My overall goal as a volunteer editor is to improve the readability of your stories. Yet, I am probably not the editor for you if you are looking more for story ideas and direction.
The first step in my review process is to read through the story and make basic error corrections for spelling, grammar, punctuation, homonyms (e.g., their/there/they’re), and typos.
I also think it's important to look at the story's flow which includes paragraph and section formatting/structure. I am looking at the conversations among characters and determining if I clearly know who said what.
I would also identify any major sentence comprehension issues. I have no intention of changing the content, but I may suggest a rephrasing of a sentence or a different word. Or I may tell you that I cannot make sense of what you wrote and are trying to express to the reader. I will also let you know if I think something is illogical or inconsistent within your story.
I typically work in Microsoft Word (.doc). I will work with you on providing edits & comments in a useful format for you.
