I've always been a stickler for the correct use of English (my mother was a speech teacher, and hammered this into us as children!). I've been reading this site for years, and my personal preference is for a story that is well-written, well-laid out, and easy to understand without having to constantly refer back to previous pages (or chapters). Certain authors have this down pat - others seem to struggle with even the most basic words, and don't seem to realise that a spell-checking program can't tell the difference in USAGE between two words that are both spelt correctly. The worst that I see regularly are waste/waist, sight/site and, of course, your/you're or their/they're. I decided to put my hand up and volunteer as an editor in the hope that I may save at least one author from making such elementary mistakes. I won't tell them how they should rewrite the story (unless I think that it's absolutely terrible!) but, to paraphrase a quote from some time ago, "I may not know literature but I know what I like!" As an older romantic I prefer the Romance and Mature categories, but I've enjoyed plenty of stories in other categories as well. I don't normally look at BDSM, and I scare easily so Erotic Horror is not on my list of favourites. As a straight guy I'm not the slightest bit interested in Transsexual, Gay Male or Lesbian stories, and I'm definitely not a poet so I'll give those a miss as well. That still leaves plenty of possibilities - please don't hesitate to ask if you think I can help.
