| Profile Statement:
I am currently studying English Literature at a very prestigious university and I am planning to make academic English a lifelong career. I am a published author myself, I have won various prizes and achieved international recognition for my own work.
I have studied both English Language and Literature so have knowledge in basic grammar/punctuation as well as in many different writing styles, uses of narrative, typical features of genres (particularly the Gothic and magic realism)etc.
I will edit grammar to a cetain extent but I am not a prescriptivist- I believe that certain constructions e.g. the split infinitive or hanging prepositions can actually add to the telling of a story so I will only make sure grammar is 'correct' wherever necessary. I also believe authors have artistic license to choose unusual vocabulary/changes in tense etc and will only edit these in order to provide cohesion and fluency. for example, suggesting alternative words if the same word has been used too often.
Being a writer myself, I can provide constructive criticism on the creation of a story if requested. My main concern is not to proof read, although I will do as I have a very keen eye, but to aid the creative process. |
