Hi Literotica writers!
I double majored in English Literature and in Theatre during college. Although I have not written any stories for Literotica yet, I have done a good bit of writing for theatre, and a lot of song writing.
In writing for Theatre I have come to categorize stories according to their strongest elements: Language, characters, spectacle, plot, or theme. Most writers will excel at one or two of these while the others fade into the background, and that's ok. I first look to find which of these are dominate in your story, and then try to help you play to that strength throughout the story while maintaining at least a minimum structure of the others.
When I edit, I primarily look for ways to help you improve:
1) Readability (Name consistency, tense agreement, confusing or ambiguous subject/verb agreement, clarity, and common sense)
2) Universe of the Story (What are the rules here? What is normal and what is not? This is especially important for stories that ask for significant suspension of disbelief.)
3) Descriptive development (Who, what, when, where, why, how, and how much)
4) Character development (at a core level there are no good guys or bad guys, only individuals with their needs, wants, and struggles. So who the hell is this character anyways and what does he need, want, and what makes him struggle?)
5) Plot development and flow (baseline, conflict, catalyst, climax, resolution)
I will admit upfront that I am not strong in the spelling department, and if spelling is the primary reason you are getting your story edited, you will be better off using good spell check program. I am decent at catching homonyms and wrong word usage, pretty good at catching most grammar errors, even better at knowing when it is ok to break grammar rules for the sake of good writing.
I am not interested in very short "stroke" stories. No offence to you if this is what you like, but they usually bore me to tears.
I am especially fond of taboo themes such as incest, cheating, cuckolding, or any story that has a character struggling with their inner depravity. |
