| Profile Statement:
Although I minored in English Literature, my desire to be an editor comes mostly from my love of the story. I believe bad grammar / spelling are distracting and can ruin a good story. I've stopped reading what looked like interesting stories because of spelling; and I've read stories that I didn't think would interest me at all simply because it was well written. But it's not grammar, but characters and plot are the most important parts of a story. If the sentence structure is done well, it shouldn't even be noticeable. The story line should flow easily and the idea behind the story will come through. Most of our thoughts are not complete sentences, nor are they structured. I wouldn't want to change or correct structure that would cause the feeling of the story to get lost. In the heated moment, the heat should come through...nothing else.
I wouldn't consider myself enough of an expert in any particular field to edit content; but I believe I can be of help with spotting holes in a plot or with depth of character. I've a well-rounded knowledge of enough things to have a fairly open, but opinionated mind. Oh yes, that is possible. I'd love the chance to work with someone who'd like help with making the story flow, easy to read, uncluttered with spelling or grammatical errors; or who'd like a fair opinion, and possibly no editing needed at all. |
