Illustration of a Houyhnhnm reading Mrs. Carboys's diary, published by the Horse-Womyns' Press. The Houyhnhnm masturbates while reading it and wants to meet the woman who wrote it. Brenda published the diary for a purpose--in order to become popular among the Houyhnhnms after her first Houyhnhnm lover put her through such torment and jealousy. Brenda vowed never again to ever be second best to anyone, even a Horse-Womyns.
Houyhnhnm Reading Mrs. Carboys's Diary and Masturbating

A Houyhnhnm at night in her bed masturbates while reading Mrs. Carboys's explicit diary about her emotional trials during her marriage: the sexual dullness and failure of her husband, Hobart, and Brenda's flirting and adulteries, beginning with an old boyfriend--not as satisfactory as she would wish--, until she finally learns of Bridal Veil Wood. There she falls head over heels in love with a beautiful Houyhnhnm and is finally sexually fulfilled. But then the Houyhnhnm torments her with doubt and jealousy, and Brenda vows never again to let her heart give her away so as to become a slave to love. And so she publishes her diary through the Horse-Womyns' Press in order to alert the Horse-Womyns and Houyhnhnms to her existence and availability. Because of her beautiful figure, Mrs. Carboys is unforgettable to look at, and soon has a number of Horse-Womyns trying to seduce her and several Houyhnhnms who are dying, like this one reading at night, to have sex with Mrs. Carboys.
