The night burns hard at Ten Grove Street
(last leaf painted
on courtyard wall does not forestall).

The moon's shadow
falls on two men embracing
beside the gate,

and by the bathroom light
I stay up late,
reading The Mass Psychology
of Fascism

and masturbating
while other kids sleep
(I keep my place with my toe).

I come,

the men are gone,
and I'm alone with the bathtub
and Wilhelm Reich.

Contrast

I love the contrast of the textbook and the image of it being held with the toe. Vivid.
