To soar above the world so high, and touch the face of God.
Apollo 1, a test of fire. Would man ever reach the moon?
Challenger made us ask ourselves, “Perhaps it is too soon?”
Now we’ve lost our maiden bird, Columbia her name
And yet the questions that are asked still remain the same.
“Is it worth the price that we must pay,
To build our children a brighter day?”
From the ashes of Apollo, Challenger, and Columbia we hear.
“You must go on, and have no fear”
We served our country faithfully, and paid the final price
You must go on, and reach the heights, don’t waste our sacrifice.
Some say we failed in our final flight
Their heart’s torn by that awful sight
But we have created a brighter day,
And spurned our men to a safer way.
So remember our names and the values we hold true
For our lives are now our gift to you
