Our first day -
  A little ball of fur,
  squeaking in a blanket.

We were together.

From day one -
  Our lives' new beginning.
  A family of three.

We were together.

Watching him grow -
  An independent "snoopy".
  Never missing a beat.

Kissing the exterminator!
  Watching the birds,
  believing they would fly inside.

Playing tag -
  Snuggling up to "Daddy";
  rolling at his feet.

Gray and white -
  Ears perked with the "P" words.
  Settled comfy between us.

We were together.

Nearly three -
  Much too young,
  we set you free.

Unconditional love -
  Our pain is deep;
  Two of us grieving.

We were together.

Our gift to you -
  Letting you go.
  One shot instead of many.

Thank you, darling one.
  We laughed each day
  because of you.

We'll be together.

Out there -
  Another ball of fur.
  We'll keep our hearts open.

Because of you,

  We'll be together.
