Leaves afloat on the water, Sunshine brightens the day
Butterflies dancing round Rosebuds, Fluffy white clouds in the sky
Little birds sing in the treetops, A Warm wind brushes my face
Loosing myself in the beauty Of this glorious place
The noise of the water is soothing A Duck and her siblings appear
She’s gently calling to them In order to keep them near
Along comes a dog and his master ‘Lovely day’ he sighs
Breaking my thoughts I say ‘Tis Sir, both looking toward the skies
He asked ’May I sit here beside you I really don’t mean to impose’
I said ‘yes, indeed, please do’ His dog licked the end of my nose……
His voice was soft and soothing As he spoke of his pleasure and pain
The stories he told me were moving Ones I’d not hear the likes of again
I cried and laughed one moment the next moment, happy then sad
At his life till that very moment from when he was but a lad
Yet in his anger no bitterness, in his sorrow there seemed little pain
He had no regrets for a moment..…with choice, he’d just do it again
He told me about the people he loved, the things he’d done in his life
The times he had his children, the day he married his wife……
The hours all seemed to pass quickly, dark clouds forming in the blue sky
He looked up and sighed for a moment, then gave me a peck on my cheek
My dear thank you for listening, I could sit here and talk for a week…
My heart sank, I thought he would leave me, how precious these hours had been
Laughing and crying whilst listening, it seemed like a wonderful dream..
The moral to most of his stories, life is a fleeting breath
Just enjoy every moment, you’re a long time beneath the earth
You can’t change the way things happen, only look back upon what did
Then look upon life as a real special gift, and take the time to live
To know happiness there must be sorrow, and pleasure conquers pain
Don’t think of what may be tomorrow, live life to the fullest today
As I was lost in the wonder of his words ringing loud and true
They seemed to be pulling my heart strings, ‘where to start – I hadn’t a clue
I needed to ask his opinion and turned to look at his face
Needed his wisdom and guidance, some steps I had to re-trace
But my heart sank deep inside me, tears streaming down my face
This dear man had gone and left me, alone in this beautiful place.
Then I seemed to hear a small whisper, now don’t you fret he cried
You have the wisdom within you, just search for it deep inside..
Just think of me if you need to, I’ll help you along your way
As you start anew at the beginning of another beautiful day……..
