The lips that touch liquor shall never touch mine.
—Temperance song, 1874

Some belts of Dewar's
Lent me the power
To pitch and woo her
In trim rose bower.

While lips slipped looser,
Her smiles smiled fewer.
I knew I'd lose her
Within the hour.
