A Hanging Tree!

byUncle Pervey©

I came to town with my sweet wife,
A man got drunk and took her life,
And I shot him down, left him on the ground.
And he lost his life, when he shot my wife.
Now a hangin' tree, is waiting for me.

His friends closed in and captured me,
And took me to the Hanging Tree.
They were angry that, I killed their friend Pat,
I felt sad and low, and let my grief show.
Here's that Hanging Tree, waiting here for me.

I told them once more about my wife,
And how their drunken friend took her life.
A voice spoke with fright, "This just isn't right,"
They took down that Noose, and they turned me loose.
There's NO Hanging Tree, waiting NOW for me.
Those men heard my plea, and they set me free.
Now a Hanging Tree, waits NO MORE for me,
And I've been set free, from a Hanging Tree!!
