I wanted to sit and write you a poem
of how your arms feel like home
but the words wouldn't come
and the rhyme was all wrong
and I felt you'd prefer
if I wrote a poem about a tree
or a cake
something innocuous
a swim in a lake
I can't help if you're all that spins in my thoughts
a battle I've long since fought and then lost
these words may not be the ones you wanted to see
or I wanted to write
or I thought that would be
but this is the poem that came out tonight
and I kind of like it, I think it's alright.
A little bit Seussy
but that's how it goes
a clever little tale, wrapped up with a bow.
