Click hereThere's a nice shady spot
under the leaves of the plum;
perfect for watching the cool green,
snoozing in the sun,
where once a great white beast did reside,
now no beloved protector, friend.
Oh the years we did traipse these hills,
companion in the brush beside,
mine eyes on the scenery,
his on the things that hide and flee,
in those wild places walked and climbed.
I'd build a fire to the dog god,
in the blackest week, flames reaching skyward,
howls shattering the dark night beyond
all creatures great&small
fall back from the sound,
of a wounded heart that calls for
one more chance to share the bond
with mans partner from beyond time.
Why must they leave us so soon, our companions of the soul?
5-ed but that's no consolation compared to a wet nose nuzzling one's ears affectionately .......RIP
