I woke up Sunday chilled to the bone
In my little Rocky Mountain home
I could hear the sweet song of the lark
Echoing in the morning dark
The sun should have risen an hour ago
But no light through my window shown
It was the coldest morning I could recall
My words froze as I spoke,
And to the ground they’d fall
I dressed warmly and ventured out
To see what this was all about
The moon that had once shown in the sky
Had long since said its last goodbye
With a small light to guide my way
I walked into the dark of day
A faint light glowed on the horizon
That seemed to be the morning sun
And as I cleared that final hill
I saw the sun was sitting still
While trying to rise it had frozen tight
Causing an eternal night
I approached it now and with my boot
Did kick the sun to set it loose
And as it started to spin around
A piece of sunrise fell to the ground
And to the sky the sun did rise
So bright I had to close my eyes
And picking up a piece of sunrise
To warm my hand
I started back across the land
