Click herelast night’s candids are developing
the certified photo technician
is sucking on a dum dum
and her sticky fingers are wrapped
around the phone.
I’m waiting. I don’t do this very well.
she’s waiting too in her four-inch heels
sharp, long and blonde
surrounded by undeserving peasants
on her cell with her throaty voice
the sex of her sound a foil to her eyes.
I want my damn pictures.
um yeah uh huh, but julie
says the tech through the clickity click click
of the dum dum against her small teeth
waiting on the beautiful amazon
whose low laugh makes my stomach flip.
this is not one-hour service.
their contact is soiled and imperfect
dark with disorder and dropped change
muffled by their apparent indifference
to each other and to me,
the veil of apathy all around us.
I check my watchless wrist again.
a poet should know patience
and I should practice
to see the splendor in those peep toe shoes
and the worth in us.
a poet should feel
and a poet should
This poem hits home in a big way as the reader relives the oh-so-familiar experience of being waited on by apathetic sales personnel. Perhaps this is what they mean when they say, Patience is a virtue.
Sounds like waiting patiently
For a blonde bobble-head
With roots of an indeterminate nature...
i enjoy this. though poet should know patience. we suck at that, and that is our nature. but this line also stands out the most to me:
the veil of apathy all around us.
that is a great line. poets show apathy in many areas that don't seem interesting.....like school.
i'm not sure about the ending, but maybe i'm missing something. i think it could be re-worked though to where "a poet should" be only in the title and everything is just explained in the piece. i commend you for effort.......don
