British crime novelist Agatha Christie
Stayed at Pera Palace
A classy French style hotel
At the historical quarter of Beyoglu
During her stay in Istanbul.

As a fan
I enjoyed her novel
Murder in The Orient Express.

There was a short break in the novel at Istanbul
Before the passangers with a hidden agenda embarked on Calais Coach.

Her room at Pera Palace became a mystery itself
Turkish novelist Ahmed Umid wrote a story collection about it:
The Key Of Agatha
Which went out of print shortly.

As you may know, like in the Hiramic legends
Key symbol brings solution to the mysteries.

Picturing her in the lobby
Sipping her early gray from a white cup,
I wonder for the sake of the argument
What an old, aristocratic English lady
Could possible be hiding in a hotel room from the world ?

A secret book of codes so popular these days
Lost emerald tablets of Egypt , Holy Grail
A treasure map, secret love letters
Exact location of Elderado, the golden city
Or Elixir of longevity.

You name it.

Hasan Ali TOKUQIN
Istanbul/TURKEY.
