That Saturday in May
Stands out forever in my mind:
A party I almost skipped,
But bound by a promise, I went,
And there you were.
When you heard my name
Your eyes lit up.
“That’s who you are?” you said,
And for the rest of the night
You barely left my side.
It’s a one-night stand,
I told myself.
I didn’t want to be disappointed again.
But two days later here you were,
After a two-hour trip,
In my home just to watch a movie with me.
And every week you came,
Just wanting to see me.
The relationship grew
And on my birthday, you said the word “love”,
Something I never thought I’d hear
And wasn’t sure I’d want.
You’ve been so patient
Letting me get used to being loved,
To being cherished and treated kindly.
Now, when you aren’t around,
I feel like I’m missing a piece,
And when you return,
I’m whole.
I want to make a life with you
And though it’s hard for me to believe,
I know that’s what you want as well.
From a party I didn’t want to attend
To something I never dreamed I’d find.
I love you.

I really love this poem.

I am strangely unable to speak about this

I truly and absolutely adore this. Though perhaps chivalry is dead, I will honor the memory my heart will always hold on to, even long after my mind has succumbed to the frailties mortality provides me. I thank you for writing and hope you continue to give to the people who surely must love you today...and tomorrow...and...

Does the world need another sappy love poem?

Absolutely!

This is a story of real, impressive, strong love. We all need to be reminded it exists, even when we've given up looking for it.
