I've shed my share of tears,
and suffered my sufferings.
I know there is and will be
vast ugliness in the world,
I know there's ugliness in me

but put a smile 'pon the tears
is what I try to do,
to use orange and green
along with the blues,
when the heart is ready to

to put a smile 'pon the tears
and forgiveness across the years,
an honest salve on honest fears,
for this is how
our troubles are overcome
