Romance is a brief flame,
As We enjoy the fast heat
Of a new Love.

Romance is a brief flame,
That flash of Lust,
Is the sudden flaring of a match.

Romance is a brief flame,
And as quickly
It burns out.

When Good Fortune smiles upon Us,
The brief flame of Romance
That had begun with a spark,
May slowly evolve
Into the warm glow of Love.

When Good Fortune smiles upon Us,
The smoldering flames of Love
Warms Our entangled Hearts
For a Lifetime.

When the Years have past
And Mortality brings Grief
To Our Mutual Spirit.
When Our Love has dimmed
To cooling embers
And the smoke of Life
Wisps away.

We leave behind
The cold ashes
Of what used to be
Our Love.

The title speaks for itself

I had to read it three times, very slowly, to fully (perhaps even now only somewhat) comprehend the message. I feel torn by this poem, both in agreement with the author and disagreement. I think the disagreement is my heart and the agreement is my head. Or is it the other way around? Overall, I think the thing I like most, and really respect about the poem as a whole, is that it inspired emotions within me. Made me think, contemplate, feel something move in my chest and clench in my gut. Very well done. Very well done.

I struggle with this one

I'll love my wife forever, deeply, and sometimes the romance come back. But I have turned to a new love for the romance that I have truely missed. Will use every efffort to maintain it.

hmm

Interesting use of capitalization and cold, hard cynicism.
