She was a beauty to be sure
Hair flaming on her ride
She loved to roam the heath and moors
Brave Gelert by her side.
Her father promised her to wed
A Lord both strong and stern
To take his name and breed him sons
And ask nought in return.
With happy heart and winning ways
Her friendship held no guile
She sang her way about his house
And made the servants smile.
Her Lord then summoned her one day
To lay down heavy law
It wasn't fitting ------ Gelert banned
She'd roam the hills no more.
Her eyes beheld the hills she loved
And one day growing bored,
She called brave Gelert to her side
And disobeyed her Lord.
Returning two hours later
Her hair in disarray
With fearful trepidation , saw
The stern Lord block her way.
With angry roar he pulled her down,
Brave Gelert's teeth snapped in,
But fended off with brutal whip
He fought but could not win.
Returned once more to her bedroom
The key turned in the door,
A howl cut short from far below
Brave Gelert called no more.
. . .
A green eyed auburn headed Lord
On the day that he was wed
In an ancient brooding manor house
Took his new wife to bed.
Somewhere in the darkness
The new bride froze in fear
At a bitter sobbing lady
That only she could hear .......
