A woman eludes me,
Just beyond my reach
The woman of my dreams
It’s her whom I seek
When will my search end?
Are you she, could it be you?
Are you the one who walks
In the shadow of my thoughts?
It’s sailing I love, the call of the sea
The woman who loves me
Must love me enough to set me free
Free to sail, free to be me
Yet, it’s a lonely life, me and my ship
When I sail into port, I’m all alone
No one to greet me, no one
To say, “Welcome home”.
I’ve searched for her around the world
The one to call my own
Sometimes in the sails
I think I hear her moans
She eluded me then, she eludes me still
How much longer will I live
With this bitter pill of loneliness?
Will she come to me upon the breeze?
Will I know her when I see her, or
Will she always be just beyond my reach?
Will she love me for who I am?
A sailor who seeks the next elusive beach
In the stillness of the star-lit night
When my ship and I are out to sea
I crave her warmth and gentleness
The brush of her lips, her arms holding me
In my night dreams we make love
In the warm tropical air
She whispers softly, “I love you”
Yet when I awake, she isn’t there
I’m still alone, with my thoughts,
Sailing the endless sea
My day dreams are of her
And what she’ll mean to me
Where is the woman
Sweet and fair?
Where and when will I find her?
The one who cares?
I will love her with all my heart
The woman who loves me enough
To set me free, who loves me enough
To let me be me
A woman eludes me
Just beyond my reach
The woman of my dreams
It’s her whom I seek
