There was a time,
 long ago,
a monochrome , everyone in the class will have a pen pal time
Organised by 'Miss'
and some other teacher in another classroom far away
Maybe America but probably Norfolk
time.

A Dear…..
My name is……..
I have two older sisters, a baby brother and a dog
time

What do you like?
 I like Saturday morning cinema
Lone Ranger and Tonto', Hopalong Cassidy
So do I!
Definitely Norfolk not America
time

 A waiting for the postman
nothing today, maybe tomorrow
time.

A Puff the Magic Dragon on the radio
Did you see Burl Ives on television
I didn't know he was that fat
time

Those letters,
pencil lined , eraser smudged and fading
were put in scrapbooks for some future
time
For teachers with fresh ideas
on interactive whiteboards ,
linked to savvy
I wonder what my little darling will do next
crowd funding
gift-aided parents on the PTA
but that's all
time

 Growing up
We were feral ,
Caught in the after, then, and 'nowhere near now'
 time
 a complicated
rewiring the circuitry in our adolescent brains
time

A showband time
my sisters courted at the Ballroom of Romance
by young farmers with bicycle clips
talking about sheep and tractors
time

Exams
discussing the works of Dickens and the Bronte sisters
improving punctuation and grammar
dissecting frogs in the afternoon
 in your own words,
 complete by Friday
 time.

Experimenting
of course we found out about our biological differences
and rejected everything else we had ever learnt
time
A fun , steep learning curve,
sometimes we forgot and had to clean up afterwards
 time

Now
its a technicolour frivolous
life is spent on social media
Facebook fat cat profit
Television in the bedroom
Never see our parents
 Let's try and be sensible
even if it is for just one night
nearly grown up
without punctuation but some capitals
of course I love you
time

It made me think. Don't usually enjoy poems, this was very different from what I've read before. Enjoyed.
