For years I’ve watched the sunlight
Illuminate the leaves, bright greens
And shadows flickering back and forth
In the wind. I’ve watched them ripen
After a time into all sorts of pleasing
Colors. But, in the end they always
Fall to the ground; they scatter across
The yard and across worn brick paths.
There they always rust, and make
A soothing crunch as they crumble
Under shuffling feet. Lately I’ve
Grown tired of this show. Someday,
My friends, I wish to climb above
The leaves and sit above the wind,
A monolith, if you will, basking
In the sunlight.

I read your poem and thought, "nice." Then I got to the last four lines. It's bit more than just nice. :)
