Beset by care, beset by loss
     Longing
Emotions that cut and slice
Like switchblades in the night
Wounded bear staggering, stumbling
Towards the distant dawn
Accidental victim
Never the target of the hunt
Traps unintended
Crimson essence glistens like
Black diamonds upon her coat
In the cold moonlight
Remembered scent of her sleeping cub
Sustaining her, pulling her towards
Distant den

Dear one, beloved
That I could lift from trembling shoulders
Burdens never meant for you to carry
That I could place salve upon wounds
Unintended infliction
Affliction
Trapped, we both are
Tragedy of our own devising
Seeking the secret, the hidden escape
From the Gordian knot that binds us
Within the fate bestowed by
Jesting gods
Testing spirits
Rejecting human sacrifice,
No victims need apply
Searching for the balance
To love’s equation
