Her laugh rings through my ears
as I sit here in the dark.

I can almost see her smile
       flash across her face, but

The silence overpowers me,
  agonizes my heart.

I thought the pain would go away,
  or slowly fade with time,

A love so strong it pulled me in
and made the man I am

I used to know my heart was hers
  and that hers was mine.

I used to hold her in my arms
  until we were asleep.

I felt full of love while she was near,
       or simply in my thoughts.

I may have lost her love of me,
but mine for her, she'll keep.
