Cramped edifices cringe in grim, gray mist
From storm clouds drizzling acid on bleak dreams
And thunderclaps that wallop like a fist
On tattered hopes loosening from faulty seams.
Propellers chopping high above ignite
Collective fury and corrosive grief,
Unhinges prehistoric fight-or-flight --
Airborne reminder of ersatz relief.
Six years ago on this dank, dreary day,
Comfort's illusion draped over stark fears.
Mass murder urged the multitudes to pray
In multilingual wails through stinging tears.
Today as we reflect on Fate's deft hand,
Intolerance viler than in the past,
Will we obey Love's strident reprimand,
Or suffer ignorance till Hate's next blast?
