Yesterday my darling wife
Went with me, enjoying life.
Went to watch our daughter's girl
Went to watch her leap and whirl.
Saw her on the trampoline,
Walking on the balance beam,
Bringing grandparental joys.
With the other girls and boys
Amber, Lucas, Ella, Jen,
Chaundra, Angel, Rachel, Ken
Bounce along the rubber track
Land in foam and hurry back.
Sliding, cartwheels, somersaults,
Flips and dips and running vaults,
Watching all the kids cavort
Is the best spectator sport.
When we left, I felt the strains,
Of my body’s aches and pains.
At my age, my exercise
Must be limited to eyes.
