The alabaster vase sat on the top shelf
Almost glowing against the dark stained wood
Everything around dulled with a fine layer of dust
As if fading away like an old memory
His hands had never been filled with wealth
Yet they could create the priceless
Working stone and wood like a maestro conducting
A symphony of nature, pulling beauty
Out of the ordinary noise of notes
The vase was his first
His first love that he gave
To his greatest love
His symbol of promise and hope
That she accepted and turned
Into fulfillment and a lifetime
His hands polish each mistake
That taught him, each flaw
That reminds him and every
Imperfection that guided him
from that day till now
He gently places it back
Beside the gradual dulling memories
That line the shelves, content
That this one will never fade
