You will always see a little sadness in my eyes,
You will always feel a little longing in my heart.
For the love I left behind,
The man who slipped away.

You will always wonder why I smile a crooked smile,
You will always think there’s something missing in my laugh,
For the sweet passion I walked away from,
When your freedom became a curse.

You will always think the rooms a little dimmer,
You will always feel the warmth seep from the sun.
For the time we spent together,
The lost friendship we shared.

You will always wonder if it could have been different,
You will always regret the harsh words spoken.
For the woman who saw you as beautiful,
The girl who left your world.

You will always wonder did I take too much from her,
You will always think your way was right.
For the woman who loved you completely,
The lady who never wanted you to change.

You will always be amazed by the love I gave you,
You will always wonder why I loved you so.
The woman who gave you her heart and soul,
The one who saw you as you truly are.

You will always wish you could understand why I left you,
You will always wish I could have explained.
The woman who touched your life and your mind,
The woman who challenged you to believe in love.

You will always think back over the months I waited for you,
You will always wonder if I could have really loved you.
The girl who cried alone in her bed each night,
The woman who prayed for guidance and strength.

You will always remember my tender kiss,
You will always long to feel my touch.
The lady who put you before herself,
The woman who gave unselfishly.

You will always feel an empty place in your life,
You will always feel the loss of unrestricted love.
The woman who wanted your happiness above her own,
The lady who cared too much.

You will never feel the pain and fear I know,
You will never understand my loss, yours is slight.
The lady who knew you wanted to fly free,
The woman who gave up your love.

You will always wonder why I couldn’t give in,
You will always wish I had left my pride behind.
The woman who loved you too much,
The woman who could not be a second hand love.

You will always see a little sadness in my eyes,
You will always feel a little longing in my heart.
For the love I left behind,
The man who slipped away.

~~

Something of a mixed message here;

She left him or he left her ~ in either case you can see,

The pain is real.
