Anatomy Of A Dragon

byMagnetron©

Forgotten oaths sworn by elder generations
Spoken in archaic tongues
Mystic rites and incantations
Simmering in the kettlepot of the dragon's brain

The foolishness of the glory bound warrior
Whose bones now lie turned to dust
In the crumbling castle foyer
Mirrored in the gemstone that is the dragon's eye

Maidens wring hands, sighing in sadness
While dogs of war clash with swords
In the perpetual art of man made madness
Along the fiery rivers coursing through the dragon's veins

Clasped in prayer underneath lofty steeples
Blistered hands from tilling fields
These joys and miseries of common peoples
Echoing in the grand caverns of the dragon's lungs

Arrows slung from bowstring strummed like chord
Suffering at the cruel blades of mercenaries
A longing for chivalry and honor to be restored

Heavy is the heart this dragon carries
