This is my first poem in a while. Hopefully I'll do more. Enjoy.

"Um, h-h-hi there," you nervously said when we first met. You were too young.
But you didn't give up. Even when I went away.
"I'll be waiting," you said. You knew that when I got back, you'd be ready.
And you were.

"I'm going to learn how to be a lover," you said. You were right.
That first night we spent, locking bodies into one. Never forgot.
The same night repeated endlessly. We said we'd keep it that way.
And we were perfect.

"Let's try something new," you said. We certainly did.
Contraptions and gizmos, toys and torture. We were happy.
Feet and facials, as splay and oils. We certainly spiced it up.
And it kept perfection going.

"Would you...tonight," you asked. I obliged.
Your sex so wet with the longing. Introduced to my mouth.
Lapping and licking with a skilled tongue. I didn't mind at all.
And it was good for us both.

"Today's the day," I tell myself. It's true, after all.
That date marking first joining. Joining with you.
The day of repeated consummation. This is the anniversary.
I dress myself nicely. I get my hair cut just that perfect way.

I sit on the same bed we shared as one.
And I pretend you'll be coming home.

In my life, I've never had to fight cancer.
I've never had a hurricane destroy my house.
I've never been in the brutality of war.
But I'm recalling happy times.

And there's nothing so sad in this world, as recalling fond memories when in sorrow.
But today, and every day hereafter, I'll remember you. I'll endure the pain.
Because all this sadness means the world to me
If for just one damn second I ever made you happy.
