"... And The Petals Fell"

Starlight.
The gray distant clouds slowly swirl,
the chill night mist caressingly soft
gathers and surrounds
seeps within...
whispers of
voices still echoing in the dark -
his dark,
his mind -
all his endless time.
Shared voices
shared
words, so many... words,
echoing
now just sounds without meaning
unspoken
unforgiving
words that can't be
said
or unsaid...
and the petals fall
one by one
unknown
unseen
untouched
"loves me not...
loves me not..."
'til
Daylight
stark and harsh
trees bowed low
their shadows crisscrossing the path
his
path
and his shadows
and his single footprints in the now
- hardened concrete of unbeing.
Silence, alone, marred with each soft thud -
as the petals fall within his mind
one by one
"loves me not...
loves me not...
not" -
of the welling tears
that weather the unfeeling shards -
shattered bits
of a still beating heart.

Petals fall ~ shattered bits of a broken heart.

~~

Those imaginary petals that give no options as love's possibilities fail.
