Our time together draws to a close
though neither of us wishes it so
and in these final moments we realize anew
just how hard a goodbye can be.
You try to hold back time
to push away the inevitable
as though through force of will
you could stay the moments slipping by.
And I, with desperate desire
to keep you here a moment more
wrap myself around you, bury myself within you
hiding from the scream
of the seconds as they march past.
But march past they do
as no temporal master may command their halt
and as always it is the awareness of the end
the knowing that we must part,
that proves to be most bitter.
And it is in the recognition of such futility
that we finally submit ourselves
to that which is and will always be
and with a final kiss, say another goodbye
