Arms Around You

I see her holding you and I wish it were me.
A feeling that makes me so sick inside that I fall to my knees.

I had my chance
and yet, I ran right past it.
We used to dance,
almost like we were a perfect fit.

I'd give anything to wrap my arms around you
and that's the only thing I want to do.

Friends in life come and go
some sooner than others
and things in life are just so
but we will always have them like they were our sisters or brothers.

If I think back on the day you left
it was like a simple "see you tomorrow"
Who could have known it would cause this much sorrow?

I wrapped my arms around you.
What else could I do?

Thinking that you'd be right back
and instead, your touch is what I lack.

Thoughts of you cross my mind each day
and with those thoughts, I just continue to pray.

She couldn't look in these deep brown eyes
and know all of the greatness you provide.

Your hands running down my face
your lips on my forehead
your heart forcing it's way into my space
and all the things that you made me feel in our bed.

I hope that one day, you'll wake up to find
that I am the one thing you just can't shake from your mind.

Wishing that it was my touch you felt
and remember the way that I smelt.

Never erasing from your mind the days we spent on the porch
dreaming up dreams as the sun just scorched.

One day you'll know that she could never love
not like when we kissed and saw white doves.

A peace over us like no other
something about loving another mother.

I would give anything to wrap my arms around you once more
and this time, I'd be sure to even the score.

Closure is what I need most
and that's something you can't get from the angels that host.

I want you to know that I love you like no one else
and that this hurt is worse than any of all hells!

Wrap your arms around me once more
and I will embrace you to the core.

Some say, too little, too late
but there is a lot more to my undying love than cleaning the slate.

I leave the porch light on
because I know that you're never really gone.
